B found the first candy cane seconds after getting out of bed so we had to wake E and tell her the surprise Molly left. She had so much fun searching for the last 11 candy canes.
E made a Lego detonator for Molly and joked around that she hoped Molly didn't blow anything up. I knew for her it was a suggestion to Molly without saying it. This left it up to me to decide what Molly could safely "blow up". I remembered as a kid making paper balloons. I decided to make two balloons and with the leftover scrap paper I tore it into pieces to resemble being "blown up". Then came the fun part. I took a lighter and burnt a few pieces of paper for affect then took a piece of charcoal and scraped to make the burnt black pieces. All that was left to do was place Molly and get "detonator" up. I didn't have any string laying around so I cut a hair tie and stuck one end under the detonator and one end into the paper balloon. Voila, an elf blowing stuff up! Lol My little ones will love this but I'm certain any kid would especially boys that love destruction! E has also been searching elf in the shelf on Google and has said a couple times that Molly is seeing what other elves are doing because she's already seen another elf doing that. So you can guess we will be doing as many new unseen elf on the shelf things as I can create.
Mommy went to bed before the kiddos tonight and was awakened this morning to E yelling, "Mommy, Molly didn't move!" I had to think quick. I decided since E doesn't pay much attention to her surroundings I could pull off an inconspicuous idea. I had E clean her toys up in her room from the night before and I quickly got to work decorating the pictures in our living room. I then slid the used markers under Molly's feet. It still took about another hour before E noticed and I got that recognizable call, "Mommy! Look what Molly did!" Success! From now on I need to set alarms on my phone to remind me, move the elf!
So I am definitely dropping the ball this year with E and B's elf on the shelf. I completely forgot this morning so Molly just got hung upside down quickly before E noticed. E wrote Molly a note letting her know what she thinks would be funny which was making E a mummy. Well poor Molly tried and got tangled up herself!
